Forum Chess Set

About

The Forum is a handcrafted chess set in a classical Roman design. Thirty-two brass pieces stand on a wooden board, 14 by 14 inch, that folds closed. One army is gold and the other a deeper copper tone. Each piece is a small figure. The king holds his staff, the queen wears flowing robes, the guards carry shields, the knight is a rearing horse and rider, and the rook is a fluted column.

Made to be played and to be seen

Set it up on a table and the board becomes the centrepiece of the room. Between games, fold it closed and put it on a shelf. At about 2.5 kg it feels like a proper board. Pick up a piece and you can see the faces, the folds of the robes and the armour.

In the set

32 brass pieces and 1 folding wooden board, 14 x 14 inch (35 x 35 cm).
